The Western Ghats are home to four tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forest ecoregions – the North Western Ghats moist deciduous forests, North Western Ghats montane rain forests, South Western Ghats moist deciduous forests, and South Western Ghats montane rain forests.

Mullayanagiri is the tallest mountain in Karnataka. Its 1930m high and is situated in Chickamagalur district. There is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva atop the mountain. A cave and a Nandi statue are at walkable distance from the temple. The mountain belongs to the Bababudangiri hill range, It is a trekkers paradise and often clubbed with Bababudangiri for trekking.

Dudhsagar Falls literally meaning The Sea of Milk is a waterfall located on the Mandovi River in the state of Karnataka, India, on Goa’s border. The water plummets hundreds of feet in large volumes during the monsoon season, forming one of the most spectacular natural phenomena in Goa. For trekkers there is small shelter built on side of river where one can set up tent. Trekking season starts in September month and continue till rains start again

The Mudumalai National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary, now also declared a Tiger Reserve, lies on the northwestern side of the Nilgiri Hills (Blue Mountains), in Nilgiri District, about 160 km (99 mi) north-west of Coimbatore in the westernmost part of Tamil Nadu. The Mudumalai Sanctuary is as an important wildlife habitat due to its strategic position as a Wildlife corridor between several other protected areas that are a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve.

Athirappilly Falls is situated in Thrissur district of Kerala, Located on the west-flowing Chalakudy River near the Vazhachal Forest Division and the Sholayar ranges. At Athirappilly Falls, the water surges around big rocks and cascades down in three separate plumes. Below the falls, the river remains turbulent for about 1 kilometre (0.6 mi) until it reaches Kannamkuzhi. Then it calms and flows smoothly until reaching the dam at Thumburmuzhi.

Valparai is a hill station in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu. This is located 3,500 feet above sea level on the Anaimalai Hills range of the Western Ghats, at a distance of 95 km from Coimbatore and 55 km from Pollachi. There are 42 hairpin bends on the way to Valparai from Azhiyar. Valparai remains relatively undisturbed from pollution.

Pratapgad is a large fort located in Raigad district, in the state of Maharashtra in India. Significant as the site of the Battle of Pratapgad, the fort is now a popular tourist destination. The Maratha king Shivaji commissioned Moropant Trimbak Pingle, his prime minister, to undertake the construction of this fort in order to defend the banks of the Nira and the Koyna rivers, and to defend the Par pass.
