Its unique features include the beautifully proportioned dome, intricate marble lattice work and porticoed courts and towers. It served as a template for the construction of Taj Mahal.

Hindola Mahal

Hindola Mahal

The Hindola Mahal, translated to “Swinging Palace” in Hindi, is a large meeting hall, or durbar, in the ancient Indian city of Mandu, Madhya Pradesh. The Hindola Mahal might have been constructed during the reign of Hoshang Shah about 1425 C.E. but may date to the end of the 15th century during the reign of Ghiyas al-Din. The Hindola Mahal may have been used as an audience chamber. Today the Hindola Mahal is a tourism destination in the ruined city of Mandu.

Nālandā is an ancient Buddhist center of learning from 427 to 1197 CE. It has been called “one of the first great universities in recorded history.” Some buildings were constructed by the Mauryan emperor Ashoka the Great. The Gupta Empire also patronized some monasteries.
