Village Schools of Tamilnadu

Tamil Nadu is the one of the most literate states in India. Tamil Nadu has performed reasonably well in terms of literacy growth during the decade 1991–2001. The Mid-day Meal Scheme program in Tamil Nadu, initiated by Kamaraj, was expanded considerably during the rule of the AIADMK in 1983. It feeds over a fifth of the state’s population.

Today, government rural schools remain poorly funded and understaffed. Several foundations, actively build high-quality rural schools, but the number of students served is small.

We like to thank Photographers mckaysavage, Tracy Hunter and Melanie-m for sharing their work.
