Nandi Hills
Nandi Hills or Nandidurg is an ancient hill fortress located in southern India, in the district of Kolar in the state of Karnataka. It is 4851 feet above sea level. Nandidrug Hill is commonly known as Nandi Hills, is the source of the rivers Penner and Ponnaiyar . Nandi Hills are named after an ancient temple Nandi located on this hill.
This temple has the statue of Nandi thousand years. An ancient statue of Shiva and the temple of Parvati also adorns this hill.
Nandidurg traditionally was considered impenetrable, and assault by Lord Cornwallis in 1791 was one of the most notable incidents of the first war against Tipu Sultan of Mysore .
The hills are now a popular tourist spot during the summer . The department of horticulture state maintains a garden especially for tourists. The pressure of tourists on the environment here is considered a major problem due to garbage, noisy and physical disturbance

In the Bhoganandishwara temple complex in the Nandi Hills area 70 or so kilometers outside of Bangalore. This is a 1000 Year old collection of ruins, built by the Chola Dynasty.
