Thekkady

Thekkady is an important tourist attraction in the Kerala. It consist of many attractions like Periyar National Park which is spread over an area of about 777 km² and comprises a thick evergreen forest with exotic wild life. Murikkady made of spice and coffee plantations, Chellar Kovil and many more.

The Wild Life Sanctuary was declared a Tiger Reserve in 1978. The splendid artificial lake formed by the Mullaiperiyar Dam across the Periyar River adds to the charm of the park. Thekkady is considered a heaven for natural spices such as black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon and clove.

Checking out the view from the dam inside the Periyar Reserve. Again we did not see any animals down to the lake to drink. Too bad!

A Nilgiri langur monkey chilling out in the trees in Periyar park. Usually grey, these ones were dark, but still with the distinctive grey mane around their faces.
